about Peabo

Jon ‘Peabo’ de Pabon

I am an urban folk artist. I was born in Los Angeles where I currently reside.  I have had the privilege to live across the USA absorbing many distinct aspects of art and culture. My life’s experiences have contributed to this passion that I am so humbled to share.

In my career life, I have earned a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising(FIDM) in Los Angeles. While there, I earned the Hispanic Scholarship as well as an award for ‘Most Outrageous Designer’. I worked as both an assistant and designer for a mainstream fashion house. I soon found myself on the east coast where I worked as a sales specialist for Ralph Lauren-Polo and Tommy Hilfiger in a major department store. I ultimately worked my way back to the west coast and after a few odd jobs I was given an opportunity to work in the film industry, which I always found great interest in. Starting from the ground up in non-union gigs, I worked my way into joining the Local 729 union as a Set Painter/Scenic Artist and ended up leading shows and films as a Lead Painter. I specialize in painting sets, props and really anything including cars, motorhomes, and airplanes for everything from commercials to TV shows to major motion pictures. With these skills I have worked in many different locations including Los Angeles and Hollywood of course, but also the Dominican Republic, New York City, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Denver, Hawaii and even Fiji. All of these experiences have given me invaluable experience and an eclectic perspective that have greatly improved my craft. My full resume for the Film Industry can be seen on IMDB. I have also been contracted for multiple high end residential jobs as a Faux Finish Artist, most notably would be the actor Gerard Butler’s NYC loft in which my partner and I were published with the cover story for Architectural Digest Magazine as well as “Société du Vin”, a private wine tasting space/cellar in Bridgehampton, NY owned by a former NBA team owner, which was featured in Forbes Magazine.

My art though, has been my identity since I was very young, growing up in Los Angeles, Chicago, and NYC. I use various mediums, common and unusual, which create a multi-dimensional aspect to my work.  I draw from numerous influences in my creations, from graffiti to fine and folk art. My eclectic life journey has led me to a unique view of art. I am inspired by Salvador Dali, Bosch, Robert Longo, Banksy as well as many other graffiti and traditional artists. One of my favorite things to do is traveling to different cities to check out their street art. I draw on these kinds of inspirations and from these elements I can express my interpretation into my urban folk art.

I have, so far in my art career, had the ability to have my work displayed on TV shows such as “Perception”, “Glow”, “Eagle Heart”, “Zane’s Sex Chronicles”, “Happy Endings” and “The Cleaner”. I was honored to have the opportunity to donate and sell 3 pieces to a charity auction for the 9/11 Fund.

For me, my passion is quite simply creating art for the viewer to contemplate and ponder, pulling them into my world. I hope you enjoy.
